Beds for 6 are provided. 2 extra child beds and 2 cots are available on request (please let us know in advance) for up to a total of 8 people.
How much do I need to pay now?
20% deposit (non refundable) if you are booking more than 8 weeks ahead.
If less than 8 weeks, 100%.
Do I need a car?
You do not need one. However you may want one if you want to do lots of sightseeing.
Once there, there is a bus stop at the end of the street which can take you to Tavira in 10 minutes and also give access to buses along the Algarve.
Conceicao – 10 to 15 minutes walk – has a train station which again runs the length of the Algarve.
How can I get to Cabanas from the airport and how long will it take?
You can drive or go by taxi / transfer (easiest option) and there is also the option of public transport.
The drive is about 30 minutes.
Is it suitable for children? What is there for them to do?
Very much so. We took our baby there for the first time when he was 5 months old.
We have a travel cot with bedding, high chair, hand blender, microwave steriliser for bottles, plastic cutlery / crockery / cups as well as books, games and toys for a range of ages.
There is also a TV and DVD player so you can take their favourite DVDs or view ours!
In terms of activities, the pool and short walk to the beach will keep most kids very happy! In addition there are several play parks close by.
The Portuguese love kids and will happily see them in restaurants at 10pm.
The area all around the villa is pedestrianised.
The doors are very secure and all windows have security shutters.
The pool is gated to prevent entry by non-residents – of course no child should be left there alone.
When is the best time to go?
This is really about personal preference, whether you want to lie on the beach or go walking and cycling, whether you want it to be busy or quiet.
July and August are the hottest and busiest months.
May, June, September and October still have all the restaurants open and boats running but it is a bit cooler (normally in the low to mid 20s) and quieter.
November to March tend to be very quiet and there is a higher chance of rain. There are still plenty of places open to eat.
What sporting activities are there?
These include golf, walking, kitesurfing, diving, windsurfing, tennis and of course swimming both in the sea and pools.
Where is there to go and visit?
Where to start!
Within 30 minutes drive you will find:
Milreu – Roman ruins with famous dolphin mosaics
Estoi – palace and gardens
Reserva Natural da Ria Formosa – this covers Ilha da Cabanas and there is a visitors centre at Quinta do Marim
Olhao – fishing port with large market (daily except Sunday)
Rio Guardiana forms the border with Spain and the Castro Marim Nature Reserve and castle
Faro old town – cathedral, archaeological museum and churches
And only 10 minutes away Tavira with a castle with excellent views a Roman bridge and over 30 churches. Many are accessible by bus and train.
Also you can reach Seville in 90 minutes.
Can I smoke in the villa?
Sorry – no.
Can I bring my pet?
Sorry – no.
Is 7 days the only possible duration?
Generally that is the minimum but if you are looking for something else please email and we will quote a price for you.
What is the best way to get from Faro airport?
The easiest option is to pre book a transfer – and we can make some suggestions when you contact us.
They take around 45 minutes. If there are 3 or more then a private taxi costs about the same.
You could use trains and buses but they can be quite time consuming. There are lots of car hire options and Faro and the drive to the apartment is pretty easy.
What are the check in / check out times?
Arrival from 3:30pm and depart by 10:30am but we will try to be as flexible as we can.
The most important thing is to let us have your flight times then we can see what we can do locally to accommodate you.
What if I need to cancel?
If you cancel more than 8 weeks before departure, you will forfeit your deposit only.
If you cancel less than 8 weeks before departure, you will forfeit the full balance.
Any security deposit paid will be refunded if cancelled
How far is the beach?
It is 700 metres (max 10 minute walk) to the sea front, dependant on the route you take.
There is a small town beach but a far better one with golden fine sand and a gently sloping sea is on Cabanas Island – 150m by boat. This takes only about 2 minutes to cross and costs €1.50 return. At the other end it is 300m along a boardwalk, which is suitable for pushchairs but not wheelchairs.
What is the swimming pool like?
It is a large 'L' shaped pool of varying depth with a fountain and a shallow paddling area attached and is surrounded by sunbeds and shades for your use, it is security gated to keep out non residents and animals and has a pool bar by the entrance where you can get refreshments.
What do I need to bring?
Really just your own personal possessions. We provide all bedding and towels, a hairdryer, Hi Fi (so bring some CDs or tapes!). If you have any specific queries please contact us.
